Redo Your Room Online - Julie Jamison on Apr 25, 2014I would add a roman or bamboo shade to the window, some more flowers or plants on by the window and maybe some framed art on the walls. If you aren't into flowers, then try some pretty decorative vases that go with the color scheme in the room. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Margie*Lee on Apr 26, 2014I agree with having more plants in your window but I would probably hang a large sun catcher in the center section. I also would consider hanging a valance with a spring rod that could add some color if it's needed.Helpful Reply

Moxie on Apr 26, 2014I think I would put up framed, painted pegboard and make it useful space for measuring cuts/spoons and the like or perhaps some open shelving with corbel brackets. Nice window and nice space!Helpful Reply

Kendra Loftus on Apr 26, 2014I had the same problem in my kitchen. I hung a stained glass window piece that I made across the bottom to keep the privacy but still let the light in and then added a shelf above it to put plants on. I used a wooden shelf but I think that glass shelves would look stunning in your window. Or maybe a nice roman shade with some plants in the window.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Apr 26, 2014I could not look out at that blank wall every day. The first thing I would do is to look for some of that frosting film that is easily put on and taken off (I think most of them use soapy water) and I would make my own stained glass window, leave a few about head level to peek out. The light would still come in, but it would be defused.Helpful Reply

SK on Elderberry on Apr 26, 2014Hi MlK Can you give us an idea of how the rest of the room is decorated? I love big empty window spots. They are asking for a special touch. Something which might delight you as you are working there. Which I assume you do because of being the sink area. You can find old rod iron decorative corbels for the upper corners. Or I liked the idea of a shelf. and put the cool corbels under the shelf. As support brackets. If you need color add something bright and colorful on the shelf. The walls could use a beautiful print or even the idea given here, open French kitchen shelving. My window is not as large as yours, so you have a lot more room to play. But this is mine. I do like many of the ideas presented here. skHelpful Reply

Donna Bennett on Apr 26, 2014What about an herb garden, some on the sill and some hanging in the window. I also would do the stained glass but not the whole window. At least it's a blank wall next door and not a window.Helpful Reply

Peggie Love on Apr 27, 2014I had this, I put vinyl blinds up, and I make swag kitchen curtains for each season of year. With you problem I'd do a window stain with pretty color then add swag k-curtains to bring the color out in stain. Use blinds for evening and night privacyHelpful Reply

Marinda Boydstun on Dec 29, 2014I have something I'm working on for my kitchen; it's a pair of curtains from 2 old broomstick skirts(I cut them apart, them sewed them to each other, all mixed up). The window looks out to the driveway, and the room needs all the help to be bright that we can give it, so we painted the walls bright white and pickled the cabinets white, with pops of color in the countertops, floors, and accessories. For your kitchen, perhaps you could improve the view with a display or a mural. If the wall is your neighbor's property, perhaps you could strike a bargain of some sort(I grew up bartering with the neighbors for some things). I did, with a neighbor here. I wanted a small tree to shade our driveway(it faces south), so I went to the neighbor's and said, "I'll plant it, on your side of our drive, and we can share the fruit and the tending."Helpful Reply
