My friend has squirrels living in her attic. She's tried everything and has called in someone who has experience but so far nothing works. Any ideas?

When most companies trap them they set the traps near the holes that they are coming into the attic. Place traps in attic also on roof near or over hole and at the base of the tree or deck they are using to gain access to the house. Use peanut butter on apples that are quartered. Also nutterr butters work and they taste good also. LOL be patient it takes time and luck they are a pain to trap
  • Its also not about trapping them but keeping them out. Once they nest in the attic you will find that they leave a scent behind. This attracts others to the location and can make it difficult if not impossible to keep them out. lots of companies use one way type traps. They are more like a funnel that makes it easy for them to leave the attic but difficult for them to re-enter. A cone shaped hardware cloth device is made and placed into the opening for a short period of time. In a few days the cone is removed an the hole is sealed closed. Any droppings or disturbed insulation that has been peed on needs to be removed or they will keep on attempting to get into the attic. Here is a link to a post I did last fall on this subject and how bad it can get. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/pest-repeller/critter-damage-and-repairs-2341380

I had that problem for years!! Finally, we got the notion to cut back the limbs on nearby trees so the could not jump over and the problem is solved! Good luck. They can be soooo damaging!

@Teri Tripp-Lanciault Ms.Tripp-Lanciault, if the squirrel problem has been solved, but you still wish for something to be with that tree or trees, what about trimming them back some? depending on how much you want trimmed, you(or hubby) might be able to do it yourself... Just a thought Madam.

A friend suggested some mothballs in the attic. Don't overdo it though, because they can be stinky. We put them near the eaves where they kept prying back the flashing. Apparently they didn't like the smell, and they stayed out. Keep the mothballs contained so they are easy to remove, if you don't like the smell either (we had them in an old tube sock at each entrance point), it makes them easier to remove.
