Jennifer G on Apr 27, 2014What is the current floor like? There can be many options… Faux grass with stepping stones or pavers, pallet-wood planks, sandbox sand, rubber mulch, a 'yellow brick road' made from painted standard bricks… try your local Restore/Habitat for Humanity. They always seem to have cool stone, tile and bricks. Good luck and post pictures!Helpful Reply

Michelle Hamill on Apr 28, 2014Maybe let the kids paint it? Or paint it like a rug with a simple border you can tape off so you don't have to worry about drawing? Some stencils perhaps?Helpful Reply

Helene Salowitz on Apr 28, 2014Never tried stencils, maybe I will try it. I wonder if I want a look of the "sea", I can use bathtub stickies. Am I making any sense here! Too much sun? Thanks @17 results are available, use up and down arrow keys to navigate.mhHelpful Reply

Darla on Apr 30, 2014Why not paint a solid color and have the children add footprints and handprints, or printing with leaves. If you can find some cool printed fabric or wallpaper, just seal it with several coats of waterbased polyurethane, and you can use that.Helpful Reply
-
-
Helene Salowitz on Apr 30, 2014Will the polyurethane make the terrace slippery during the winter? Thank you for your wonderful ideas@DarlaHelpful Reply
-
-
Darla on Apr 30, 2014It shouldn't be any more slippery than paint, but most hard surfaces will be slippery when wet or icy. The flat or satin is not quite as smooth as the gloss finish. If you are concerned about it being slippery, you can add a little fine sand to the paint or use nonslip paint made for steps, which has grit added to it.Helpful Reply
