Five Spring Tasks to Get Your Garden Looking It's Best

Invest in some time now to make your garden look it's best throughout the season. Here's five simple spring tasks to get you on your way.
Clean all your garden decor items before setting them out. For tough stains use CLR to remove rust and water stains to pots like this fountain. Or wash glass lanterns, wasp traps and flower pots in warm soapy water.
Now is the time to divide perennials. Hostas, day lilies, irises and many more need dividing every 3 or 4 years. The bonus? You get more plants to play with, to swap with friends or sell at your local horticultural society.
Trim off any dead branches or twigs from your flowering shrubs or trees. Now that things are leafing out, you can easily see which branches didn't make it through the winter.
Top dress your gardens with 2-3" of mulch. The advantages are endless. Not only will your beds look nicer, but the added nutrients will help your plants do their best, plus it helps to keep weed growth down.
And finally, take a flat edged spade and edge your gardens. This task alone will make the world of difference in how your beds look.
