Carole on May 02, 2014If it is a screw cap, I am guessing by the size of the bottle and the design that it may have contained medicine, such as calamine lotion - used for itchy skin and such, or perhaps kaolin and morphine which is used to settle an upset tummy. These products are commonly sold in bottles similar in appearance to yours.Helpful Reply

Beatriz Maria on May 03, 2014The bottle is dark to protect some precious liquid. It could be,olive oil because the cap but the little bow sugest any other thing. You can find something in google looking for the bow as a mark registered.Helpful Reply

Becky Wood on May 03, 2014If my memory serves, looks like an old vanilla extract bottle my Mom had. Might have been a Watkins product.Helpful Reply

Janis Hill on May 04, 2014It is a medicine bottle or a flavoring bottle of some sort. The brown color is indicative of that. Is there any writing on the bottom of the bottle?Helpful Reply

TJ on May 08, 2014One of the better indicators of age is by looking at the side seam marks. If the seam goes all the way up through the lip, it is a new bottle. If the cap is plastic, then of course it is newer. It is way too big for a snuff bottle. When I first looked at it, I, too thought Watkins Vanilla. The darker colors were commonly used to keep direct light from affecting the contents.Helpful Reply

Sandi Gavlak Plotner on May 09, 2014Are there any markings on the bottom? The neck is too short to be an extract bottle from Watkins, I think. Very interesting. Hope you post the result of your sleuthing.Helpful Reply

Linda T on Feb 17, 2015If it has what appear to be ridges all around the bottle, or at least on the two sides, it indicates a 'poison' bottle. Meaning anything from bleach to chloroform, to arsenic. The ridges were for people with failing eyesight to be able to identify things you must NOT drink, at least, 'til they are diluted by the pharmacist. (Arsenic was used for a tonic when I was growing up)Helpful Reply
