DIY Marble Window Shelf

I LOVE marble - when we renovated our kitchen the original plan was to have a marble slab counter top.
Renovations ( as always ) took a turn for the worse - with expenses doubling in a very short time.
I had to switch plans and create a marble counter top from 12 x 12 inch tiles - to create a backsplash I purchased marble " thresholds " ( for where the bathroom floor meets a regular floor )
At the end of the job I had a piece left over and an idea was born !
I used it to create a marble shelf under the window sill in the kitchen - a perfect place to keep potted herbs or flowers in the summer.

Here you can see how we used the thresholds as a backsplash
Extra threshold - just sitting around waiting for me to come up with an idea lol
Small shelf - which I used as the base of the marble shelf -
I simply rested the marble slab on to the small shelf and voila!

Cynthia H on Jul 27, 2015Really nice use of materials! It makes me wonder what other terrific materials are hiding at the HD or Lowe's for other uses. Truly inspired by your thresholds!
