Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on May 08, 2014This is quite an undertaking you are doing. To assist you in your planning and giving you suggestions is difficult without knowing what your tastes are and what size and shape your kitchen is. There are thousands of ideas as well as products available so its difficult to help. My very first suggestion if you have not yet started is to get a drawing done of what the kitchen will eventually look like in your eyes. You can easily measure the dimensions of the room, place doors and windows on this drawing. Take it to any one of a few dozen kitchen places including the big box stores and they can do a professional layout for you at no charge. Most do not require you to purchase and would require anyway that they visited your home prior to the final approval for the cabinets as they need to confirm measurements. But this will give you a starting point and an idea of what cabinet sizes and styles are available. Once you have that information the next item is to choose your cabinet styles and colors. You then work off that with your counter and floor colors as well as back splashes. Also do not forget that your appliances will play an important role in the colors you choose.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on May 08, 2014Go to open houses and (especially new homes) that advertise remodeled kitchens, go to showrooms, and take your measurements into a Home Depot, Lowes, or other home improvement store for ideas (the associates can help you design what you are looking for). Write down what you do not like and what you like about your kitchen too. I went with what ideas I had for design and my measurements to a cabinet/kitchen company and had them help me. My kitchen is 90% done and 90% what I always wanted. If you are like me, I need to see things and touch things. You have to have a budget and know that you will go over. It just works that way. I can tell you from experience that granite and any other natural stone is a great thing and does not harbor bacteria and germs. However, the upkeep and the things you have to avoid or watch for spilling on the stone (and not immediately being wiped ) can cause pitting-orange juice and any acidic substance. I have had someone lean on my cooktop area and cracked the granite. I have pits from spills that were not immediately wiped up while I was gone. I have a chip where someone dropped a glass just right. Plus The stone needs to be sealed every couple years. The store products do not do the job the professionals do. I am a DIYer and now know that I did my granite a disservice by not having it professionally sealed and doing it myself. My family of guys is rough and so I stopped at the island and cooktop area having granite. If you cook a lot, larger cooktops (36") are so much nicer. Double ovens if you bake are awesome! It is so nice to bake a cake in one and a turkey in another, if need. But the best thing is to go and see for yourself new homes and how the kitchens are set up. Choose a house similar to yours so you can get a better design idea. good luck! and take your time.Helpful Reply
