Pesty Weeds Everywhere
-
Douglas Hunt on May 08, 2014The best defense against weeds is a healthy lawn. Weeds are opportunistic, so the thicker your lawn is, the less chance they have. Both dandelions and goathead, also known as puncturevine, spread by seeds, so it's important to get them before they form them. It's too late for this season, but your best bet is a pre-emergent herbicide applied in early spring. At this point in the season, if you cannot pull them, you would have to rely on a post-emergent herbicide. Make sure to check the label to make sure it is safe for the type of grass you have. If you are interested in biological controls, there are two weevils that are effective against goathead.
