Possible "short" in ceiling fan/light fixture?

The ceiling fan/light fixture is on via the wall switch. There is a remote that enables you to operate the fan w/out the light or vise versa as well as have both fan & light on. The issue is that during the middle of the night, I was awakened by the light being on. Pretty freaky if you ask me. At first I thought it may have been the result of one of my cats walking across the night stand & possible stepping on the remote that was lying there. I decided to put the remote inside the drawer of the night stand & when I came home from work the next day I found the light on & the fan off. Would this be due to a short in the wiring of the actual fixture? This fixture is 9 yrs old, never had any issues up until now. My concern is for this creating a fire, if that is possible. Would like to know what the problem is & if it is best just to replace the fixture. Thanks!

  • It's possible that someone in the area has a fan using the same remote control frequency. Try changing the frequency of the signal in the remote. Don't forget to do the same in the fan to match. There are many things today that emit common frequencies and interfere with other devices. Like a TV remote control that changes the channel on your TV and your neighbors TV also.
