Squirrel deterent wire
-
The Garden Frog with C Renee on May 20, 2014I have to tell you that squirrels are one of the most innovative and creative creatures when it comes to getting bird seed. I had a neighbor who decided to run bird feeders on wire from the house to the tree and hang the bird feeders on the wire in the middle thinking that thin wire would keep them from getting to it. For days, he watched as his idea worked and the squirrels seemed to be staring at the bird feeders and not having any success. Ha! The squirrels got smart- one squirrel stayed at the tree looking like it was holding the wire while the other squirrel looked like a high wire act getting over to the feeders and then the 2nd squirrel got on the wire and made it over to the squirrel where it looked like he was holding the other squirrel. the 1st squirrel grabbed the feeder and dumped the feed all over the ground! The squirrels jumped off the line down to the feed and busily gathered up the seeds... Moral of the story? You may to build a squirrel feeder and a bird feeder (use the thinnest wire) to hang it at away from any objects/trees/house. good luck!Helpful Reply
