It is a Weeping Mulberry. some bear fruit, which the birds (and people) love and others do not. They need cutting back of all the dead wood from the winter. nice tree!

It looks like my weeping willow. I believe it can be identified by the leaves. Here's a link to the MO Botanical Garden in St. Louis. They have a plant finder with tips. http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=c148

Its either a weeping mulberry or a weeping cherry. Can't tell because the top looks like the weeping mulberry and the trunk looks like a Japanese weeping cherry.

Awesome! Thanks everyone! I will be checking it out. It is such a cool and odd looking tree, all in one. I am excited to plant one in my front yard. :-)

Yes, but I am unsure as I only recently discovered it. I think it is pink. I will know more once it blooms, it is green now, but not blooming yet.

Here in southern -middle TN a lot of folks have them in their yards and they are just beautiful!!!! I asked several people what they were and all answered Weeping Cherry tree. There are many varieties,I have learned, of willow trees. I never knew that before!! Check to see what grows better in your climate/zone and go for it!! :)

If it was in Texas it would be a Weeping Willow tree. They are beautiful trees. Since it's not in Texas I can only assume it's another kind of weeping tree, and they are all very pretty.
  • EL Hoard EL Hoard on Jun 30, 2014
If it has pink blooms, it's probably a weeping cherry tree.

It really depends on what the leaves look like. Long and slender it is a willow, large and glossy it is a mulberry, shorter and slender it is a cherry. My mulberry never bloomed but I liked that it was so succulent-looking. We now have a cherry at our new home but I much prefer the mulberry.
  • Margie Margie on Mar 17, 2015
We have tons of trees like that around here. They are weeping cherry usually, but there are some other variations. That's almost exactly what they look like though, so I'd say weeping cherry is my guess. ☺
  • EL Hoard EL Hoard on Mar 18, 2015
If it blooms with pink flowers, it's probably a weeping cherry, but if not and it has large dark green leaves, it's probably a weeping Mulberry like mine.

    • Wjm Wjm on Sep 11, 2015
@Pat Helmer That is my thought. Hard to see close enough. If it has small little things that look like sugar smacks cereal with a puff to it. I used to have one and loved it. It lived for a long time before it died.

Weeping cherry, or weeping Japanese maple.
  • Patriciamaxwell69 Patriciamaxwell69 on Sep 08, 2015
Weeping mulberry, most likely, though seeing it with leaves would help. These were a gardening fad several years ago. Take a small, leafy branch to your local nursery to be sure.

Japanese weeping cherry. Trim from underneath after it has bloomed.Get rid of any dead branches. Likes light. We have one and keep it trimmed to look like umbrella.

    I think it's a weeping willow
  • JESS JESS on Apr 01, 2016
Check with a local nursery. And if it is a "Weeping" anything, they have very intrusive root structures and can cause havoc of plumbing pipes.
  • Chris Grube Chris Grube on Apr 02, 2016
If it blooms pink small flowers its could be the weeping cherry , loke at he short trunk cherry has short trunks
  • M. M.. M. M.. on Apr 02, 2016
weeping cherry, and it looks like it's far enough from any foundation or structure to not cause root problems. Mine was an excellent photo spot with the kids, and they loved being under the tree in the shade, almost like a tent!
  • Linda T Linda T on Apr 02, 2016
I'm inclined to agree with you (I Googled it, of course) but I also looked at Weeping Japanese Maple too, because we have many in our little town (I am envious!) and their 'naked' shapes are very similar to yours, though a lot of their trunks have been shaped to look old and crooked. BTW, most cherry bark is smooth with a sheen and is often grey, or cherry red.
  • EL Hoard EL Hoard on Apr 02, 2016
Your tree does not have invasive roots. It's a Weeping Mulberry
  • Linda T Linda T on Apr 03, 2016
Again, Googled. It's amazing how similar all three are! A good thing one can identify the leaves!
  • Pfhuntley Pfhuntley on Apr 06, 2016
Thanks everyone! I did google it before I came on here to ask, of course, but yes, they are so very similar. I do not own it and do not know the owners, but it was very pretty when it did bloom. Yes, it had small pink flowers on it. Very pretty and weird all at the same time.
  • Cathie Cathie on May 28, 2016

Hello! I live in Japan and if that tree has pink flowers with five petals its a Shidarezakura. If it has pink flowers with more than five petals its a Yaeshidarezakura. Weeping cherry for short, but how cool are the Japanese names for it! :) Nice tree!
    • Pfhuntley Pfhuntley on May 29, 2016
@Thank You Bryan's Workshop I think you are correct! It does have pink flowers, but not sure how many petals. :-)

Not absolutely sure, due to blurriness of the photo, but it looks like a Walker's Weeping Siberian Caragena I planted two years ago in my front yard. Mine is much smaller, but the branch configuration looks similar. Bought it from a Mennonite nursery in North Central Iowa. It is somewhat rare but available in a few places. I love it because it is unusual.
  • JESS JESS on Aug 07, 2016
Cut a significant limb of the tree in a non obvious place, [back of tree], take it to your local plant nursery and/or arboretum and they can tell your instantly.
