Turn Your Window Into Functional Art

There are a ton of fabulous ideas out there about how to decorate your home with old windows. I’d like to add yet another idea to the mix. This is a three-part project, yet you can easily adapt any of the parts to suit your own style.
Step 1: Find a window

I recently came into this cute little square window. I love the size and shape but not necessarily the newer finish. I prefer the aged look of an old, chipped window.
Step Two: Paint on the glass pane

Before we get to aging the window frame, let’s talk about dressing up the glass pane. This is a fairly simple project that you can do at home.

Here’s what you need besides the window:

- Printer and paper

- Tape

- Acrylic paint and paintbrush

That's it!
Step Three: Select a quote or lyric

First, select your favorite quote or song lyric. I chose to use the catchy lyric from Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros popular song “Home.” Type your selection and choose your layout and preferred font. Once you’re satisfied, print it out and tape it to the underside of the window so you can read it through the glass.

I love this! I'm always looking for ways to letter, other than freehand, because I am terrible at it. This also inspires me to try something else--lettering on picture frame glass and mounting on weathered wood. In the meantime, I'll drag out one of those windows I've been hoarding.

This is awesome. We have plenty of old windows in stock to choose from... all very reasonably priced. http://www.realantiquewood.com
