Landscaping a Late Spring Garden

Rather Square
by Rather Square
How does your spring garden grow? Ours is in full bloom with so many colors, textures, and new growth! Even though our Midwest spring season arrived later than usual, our backyard and all its garden loveliness has finally sprung back to life. One relatively mild weekend last month, we cleaned and trimmed around the plants - there were a lot of leftover fallen autumn leaves, broken branches, and dead growth to clear out. We were able to clear out the debris around plants and trim off any dead wood in a couple of afternoons. And today things seem to be growing very well - so far we’ve seen lots of pretty colors and leafy growth, such as tulips, daffodils, brunnera (“false forget-me-nots”), lilacs, hostas, chives, ferns, alliums, rhododendrons, Annabelle hydrangeas, and more. Read more at our blog post below!
A small selection of what we've seen in our garden this spring!
We pruned our smoke tree quite a bit before winter set in last year, and then waited several months to see if we’d been too vigorous. Luckily, it seems to be growing back nicely.
We also pruned this burning bush in the autumn last year, and it's been coming back strong as well.

I love that big curving border and proportion of grass. Your smoke tree looks very close to the house, but perhaps it's just the angle.

@Douglas Hunt Thanks! The smoke tree is right up against the house, but it hasn't caused us any issues with the foundation and roots and such. It actually provides some nice privacy in our dining nook window.
