Are there any markings on the underside that might help identify them? Do they swivel or have legs...can't be sure by pic. I'm been searching the internet...so far this is as close as I have found: http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/chairs/pair-of-hollywood-regency-channel-back-chairs/id-f_829116/

I've seen these chairs in more hi-end furniture shops. What a find!!! .If you're good at upholstery I'd take the fabric off to use as a pattern. That way you can check for any water damage inside. I think they are worth the money to have them upholstered. Love them!

If they got too wet, you'll have to replace the foam, but that's not a problem for an upholsterer.

They are nothing special, sold in the late 90's at value city furniture,

I would take them apart now and lay the different pieces inside of foam or whatever around separately so air could circulate to dry...a fan will speed up the drying. If you are having dry weather in your part of the country, you can even put them out on a piece of plastic in the sun to dry. Put a couple of something like 2x4s under them to lift them up so the air can circulate. Be sure and let us know what you find out about these and of course the finished product!

I remember these kind of chairs from the mid 1980's (when the Art Deco Look was revived). I believe they're called 'occasional chairs' and they came with a single tufted ottoman used for both of them. They would look great reupholstered. Such a nice shape and they look so comfy!

These chairs are asymmetrical in shape. I just bought 2 from a high school classmate. She was selling them for her brother. Not sure where he bought them.

@Anne My curiosity keep me searching. As I said the only ones I could find were on a website for Carter Furniture. They have a FB page, so I messaged them for more info...this is there reply "I believe this style was introduced between 1925 and 1950 as part of the design revolution coming out of France. This era of design is now known as Art Deco. Furniture style are constantly being updated and redesigned by todays factories and designers. As one of my older colleagues use to say, "That's not new, we just have a new generation looking at it." You can search for these chairs using the terms fan chair or channel back chair. Some manufacturers place a card under the chair or hide a id mark on the frame inside the dust cover under the bottom of the chair."

The shape bothers me! LOL If you're going to an upholsterer, they can also make them symmetrical.

My Mom had these chairs. When they were reupholstered, each back section was cut separately for a perfect match. They were beautiful!

She bought these in the early 60's

I would definatly go with the re upholstering, something dramatic to match the shape would be really cool, but you need to make sure that if you choose a pattern, that it makes sense with the lines of the back and seat. If it is your cup of tea, a paisley in a nice punchy color would be awesome!! Or maybe a cool looking black and white print for some drama! And I believe the style name is Hollywood Regency.

I've seen these chairs in Modern Furniture Stores… They do make a statement, so I'd pick a great geometric pattern that works with the chair style and do them justice! An Animal Print might be nice too for a more lounge look... Totally agree w/Della HAVE FUN!!

I first saw this style in a very high end, designer furniture shop, but like all other styles, I'm sure they've been copied by other furniture manufacturers for a more affordable price. What makes them unique is the asymmetry; either you like them, or you don't. I think they're wonderful. When I found a pair in the designer furniture shop, they were done in a zebra stripe material which made them even more spectacular. Happy reupholstering!

I love these and have seen them in many second hand/antique stores. The shape is so pretty and I have also seen them with a single ottoman. Get them reupholstered, they are worth it even if just for the sheer beauty of their shape and they are very comfortable.

a friend of mine has these chairs and she it utilizing them in her upscale photo studio. She painted them rather than go with the expense of reupholstering them. It was more work on her part but saved her a great deal of money.

The lady across from me had 2 of these in her formal living room, and sold them before she moved back to NY. I always thought they where very pretty. BTW, she always bought quality things, but I couldn't say if hers were, but I would be very surprise if they weren't.

Have you considered painting them? This would be the cheapest way to start. There are posts on Pinterest and probably on Hometalk on how to paint upholstered furniture with both paint and fabric medium and also with chalk paint. If you don't like the results, then you can re-upholster or have slipcovers made. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

Art Deco Style, 1920`seen in soft colors with lots of mirrored furniture and crystal chandeliers. Was seen again in the 50`s & 60`s in Aqua color, orange being a accent color.

Place fans around the chairs to dry them...retro material would look GREAT on them :)
  • Cindy Cindy on Jun 02, 2014
They are called Batty Davis chairs according to the salesman who sold me a pair a few years ago. I love them!
  • Chris G Chris G on Jun 02, 2014
they are similar to the chairs Haverty's sold called Bogie & Becall chairs. Always liked them. If you have a shop vac, clean the suction end & draw as much of the water out as possible, then put them near something warm. Lamp with standard bulbs releases a lot of heat....

I have seen these chair back when I was a kid, late 40's early 50's, I've always loved them. If you want them side by side switch them out and they will make pretty much of a love set.
