I grew up in the country and do not understand the sudden fascination with chickens. If you live on acreage, they are fine, otherwise...??? The poop every time they take a step so everywhere they walk, there is poop! And it has a STRONG smell! And they are subject to ailments just like any other animal so you should at least have the flock checked regularly by a vet...for protection of your family as well as them! And BTW, how near are they to a water supply....creek, well, pond, etc? There is drainage pollution.
