Wire Magazine Rack Becomes Lost & Found Wall Pocket

What was I planning to do with a wire magazine rack that I picked up at Goodwill for $1.99? That was the question on my husband's mind when he saw yet another magazine rack in my project pile. I really had no idea what it would become, but it spoke to me, I bought it, and there it was.
Like many grandmothers, each week I find the collection of "left behind" items grows. We had a basket for "lost and found" but it frequently disappeared, getting repurposed on a regular basis. I needed a more permanent solution for the pile of forgotten items I was amassing. How about that magazine rack?
Using the rack, a piece of string, and a 25-cent drawer front from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, I now have a hanging Lost & Found next to the front door. How did I do it?
1) Attach the rack to the wall with screws.
2) Using a kitchen drawer front, make a sign. I printed the lettering with my inkjet printer then traced it onto the drawer front with graphite paper. The leaves and pine needles were done with a Martha Stewart stencil. Lettering and painting the leaves were accomplished with Sharpie Oil Paint pens.
3) I drilled two holes towards the top of the sign, ran a piece of twine between them, and hung the sign from one of the ivy leaves decorating the magazine rack.
Before: the rack attached to the wall.
The lettering is as complete as it's going to be!
The big reveal! LOL. This is just one week's worth of left-behinds.
