I wanted my dining room to better represent the style of my 1940s Cape Cod home so I decided that after eight years it was time to refresh this space with a coastal/farmhouse look. The first step I did was change the paint color and that alone has majorly transformed the space! I wanted a balanced gray that when you looked at it you saw gray. You didn't see beige, purple or green which a lot of grays tend to have these hues in them, so when I found this color I knew it was the one!
Here is my white hutch and antique chandelier against the new color. I felt the old color competed with my accessories but my new gray color is more of a back drop that allows the accessories to show on their own.
The color is Driftwood Gray by Martha Stewart. The paint I used was from home depot and did not require a primer.
Here is a picture of just one set of the new accessories I will be using for my new dining room. The yellow lemons add a pop of color (yellow coordinates nicely with the gray and transitions to the rest of the house), and the jar of wine corks just adds some interest. You can see more pictures and the paint that I used on my blog.
