Vicki K on Jun 10, 2014In the 1940's they were in bedrooms and were called "slipper chairs" to sit on and put your shoes on. They were always armless, seats wide for sitting, and the backs were rolled vertically.Helpful Reply

V Valencia on Jun 11, 2014This is an updated slipper chair. They are originally from the Victorian era. Along with use for dressing, women used these because they were lower to the ground and arm-less. This type of seating was useful because of the underpinnings and voluminous dresses worn in those times.Helpful Reply

Kymberli Phelps Carr on Jun 11, 2014Mid-century slipper chair. The original slipper chairs date back to the 17th century. They were popular for ladies repose areas or tea rooms. Their usually short in height with no arms and a wide seat. They were made to accommodate a woman's layers and or bindings. They were also commonly paired with fainting couches, which are now better known as chaise lounges. Which are the larger and more modern versions.Helpful Reply

Centrd on Jun 11, 2014wow, you got a killer deal there! The chairs in the photos below are selling on ebay for a lot. $750 for the pink pair and $1195 for the green pair (with 17 watchers)! They''re not even claiming to be authentic Frieze Kroehlers. One very similar to yours with a leaf pattern sold for $650. They're probably more valuable in their original upholstery, but the third pair from Etsy (also sold) have been reupholstered & look awfully cute & fresh.Helpful Reply
