Scratching the Surface

The coolest thing about this piece are the original knobs. What a find. This piece was a study in using sand paper to scribble scratches into the surface. I wasn't trying to achieve a distressed look but rather, create texture with contrasting colors: The white part was first painted a dark gray then white so that the scratching would reveal dark lines. Likewise, the top was painted black to reveal the light wood tone underneath when scratched with sand paper. Visit my blog for more pictures and a more in depth explanation of process.
I used 60 grit sand paper to scratch the surface.
