Old Granary Screen Becomes a Great Junk Garden Backdrop

I found this old granary screen/sifter for $6 at a local junk shop last week. After carrying it around the yard for over an hour trying to decide where to put it, I found that it worked well as a backdrop for a horizontal whiskey barrel planter on my deck.
This horizontal barrel had been planted as a kitchen fairy garden for the last two years, but I was ready for a change. On the right of the barrel is an old garden chair with a galvanized bucket of violas.
I nailed the screen to the railing of my deck and accessorized it with vintage garden tools and a sign.
A great backdrop is an important part of any country cottage junk garden vignette. See my blog post for more junk garden vignettes and details, and also check out my Hometalk "Garden Backdrop Clipboard" for many more great garden backdrop ideas.
