Redoing my large concrete porch

I took up the old indoor outdoor carpeting off my big concrete porch. I was going to replace it with some of the same but would like some different ideas on what I can do with it instead.

How about painting a "faux" rug? Or you could paint "faux" tiles. I think either would be neat.

You can also paint a faux wood floor or just stencil a boarder around the edge of the porch.

I painted mine years ago and wish I had not! It gets wet and the paint peels up. If you have to do anything, stain it. I would use several colors in a terra cotta or in the brown/gold/biege colors for this and then make it random. That way when it wears, you can come back and splash it again and you won't have to follow a pattern. In other words, don't make future problems for yourself.

I agree with Jeanette S, stain the concrete and then use Donna Byram's suggestion for stenciling only around the edges with some pretty chocolate brown scroll work.

My son painted my front porch with concrete paint, It has gone through several very wet summers and snowy winters and still looks great. He painted it to look like stone using several shades in the same color family. I have had so many complements on it! Hope you come up with a solution you really like as well.

I am in the process of prepping my front concrete steps. I am painting them a gray color then I will be adding a stencil design to the top of the step afterward it has dried. .

The trick with painting concrete is to make sure it bonds. You have to clean the concrete a few times with vinegar to etch it. Then you can use water based stains, or other types of stains, or you can thin chalk paint or primers until they are thin enough to penetrate the concrete. Then use a sealer on top. We've done this to two floors with no problems. The porch floor has had a few chipping areas and some fading over time, but looks great when touched up or re-sealed. We marbleized our floors to help them hide dirt and marks. We have some posts on this on our HomeTalk and YouTube Channel.
