Paper Plate & Kids Art Fourth of July Banner

Get your kids in on decorating for the Fourth and clue them in to a little bit of history while they have some fun creating. You'll use their drawings in this easy patriotic banner!
Square paper plates are the base for this banner. They're inexpensive, and you can of course find them already decked out in Stars and Stripes.
Give the kids only blue and red markers and let them go to town on plain drawing paper. Fireworks are an easy thing for most kiddos to draw, but even little ones' scribbles will work just great for this project!
You'll want some plain pieces of card stock (I found some at the craft store that have a glittery shimmer to them for a little sparkle.) Cut a piece of card stock to fit the inside of each plate. Leave plenty of room around it to let the plate colors show. (Like the elephant scissors? thought so.) :-)
Take four pieces of the card stock that have been cut to fit your plates, and turn the pieces over, so they're face down. Draw or stencil the numbers 1 7 7 6, one on each piece of car stock. **MAKE SURE you draw the numbers BACKWARDS!
Using a craft knife, carefully cut out each number.
Grab your child's drawings. Find a spot that would be good to showcase through the open number.
Using craft glue, glue each piece of drawing to the card stock with the numbers.
See where we're going?
Glue each of the card stock/drawing pieces to the center of the plates.
Punch two holes in the top of each plate.
String the plates together with twine.
Hang your banner and have a happy Fourth, everyone!
