Can I save this shrub? And what kind is it?

Adrianne C on Jun 22, 2014I think the shrub is probably dead, what's growing looks like Kudzu.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jun 22, 2014Cut it back until you see live wood, if any, and don't set fire to it again!Helpful Reply

Laura on Jun 22, 2014Thank you both! So we need to trim it way back then, right? And we won't set fire again!Helpful Reply

Marianne on Jun 22, 2014Yep, as doug said cut it back. When I moved in to my home the previous owner let all the shrubs go. I cut everything back within 8 in of the ground. Now they are coming in nicely and I am shaping them early on.Helpful Reply

Myrna Engle on Jun 22, 2014I don't think it is alive. What's growing from base might be Kudzu. To test for life cut it back a few inches at a time. When you find green wood stop and let nature take its course. It couldn't hurt to dig around it and add some garden soil to dirt. They appear not to be in a bed so it might need some more nutrients.Helpful Reply
