Is it ok to cut the rose hips off bush while it continues to bloom?

Myrna Engle on Jun 22, 2014I don't think it's harmful, but rose hips are quite unusual in todays rose garden. They are really lovely in winter when the leaves have fallen and the fruit is truly red. I enjoy removing some twigs to allow better view of red fruits. I'd keep them.Helpful Reply

Jootsie Sivad on Jun 22, 2014I'm not positive of this, but aren't the rose hips better for the vitamin C content, after they turn red ? We left ours for the winter birds (wild rose bush with jillions of tiny rose hips) and Yep! the birds never ate any. this year they are MINE ! LOLHelpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jun 23, 2014Gail is correct. Removing the hips will encourage the rose to rebloom. Don't leave them on until the end of the season.Helpful Reply
