An Outdated Bedroom Redo With Soft Sponged Walls and Neutral Colors

What would become the guest room in our newly purchased home began as an outdated blue and white room that sported tiny flowered wallpaper and country style window treatments. Cute for a child's room, but I wanted to give it an "adult" feel with a little class.
The clutter was overwhelming when I first saw this room and the blue paint was from the 70's. But I had another vision. I wanted a soothing, classy place for my guests.

Stripping the room down, taking off the wallpaper, then removing the curtains gave me a fresh slate to work with.
Cream paint on the wainscoting lightened up the room instantly. I then used cream and a darker brown to sponge paint the walls, blending heavily in order to soften the colors. That treatment made the walls appear to be "parchment", which was soft and beautiful. The new wall treatment brought out the beauty of the pine ceiling which is one of the rooms most wonderful attributes.

White sheer curtains over the windows and draped purple valence softened the hard lines and added a pop of color.

A single rod placed above the bed and then cream colored sheer material was creatively draped to create a focal point. After adding cream colored accessories and a pop of purple on the bed, the room came together in a beautiful way.
