Can anyone help me identify these flowers?

Douglas Hunt on Jun 26, 2014The purple plant is Physostegia virginiana, or obedient plant, although some would say disobedient would be a better name because of the way it aggressively spreads when happy. I cannot tell enough from the photo to identify the bottom plant.Helpful Reply

Janet Overocker on Jun 26, 2014Thank you Douglas. I found another post that resembles the flowers on the other plant. It was identified as balsam. The obedient plant must be very happy. I thin it out every spring.Helpful Reply

Wanda sinnema on Jun 26, 2014Doug has it right..they come in several colors...be sure to cut off the top blossoms and they will send out smaller ones down a bit farther on the stem..and rebloom..hummingbirds and bees love them..Helpful Reply
