Dawn Becker on Jun 30, 2014It does seem to be a big fad, doesn't it? I think it would go well in the coastal decor in going to use in my new home.Helpful Reply

Charlene on Jun 30, 2014It's great! You don't have to sand or prime! Saves a lot of work! And it's easier to distress, if you like that look.Helpful Reply

Brenda Nealy on Jun 30, 2014you can mix your own up in small batches and as Charlene above said no priming, no sanding....so it's a time saverHelpful Reply

Janel Santos on Jun 30, 2014It's so easy to apply and you can paint it on just about anything. Your wax finish makes it virtually waterproof and it does cover up years of abuse.Helpful Reply

Janel Santos on Jun 30, 2014I make my own with plaster of paris. I use Minwax wax finish. It doesn't have to break the budget.Helpful Reply

Cynthia H on Jun 30, 2014I haven't tried making my own, yet. Tried the name brand that everyone swears by, and was very disappointed on a large project. Ended up removing it, sanded and then used a name brand paint that was latex. Loved it! I still like real, unpainted wood, but, some wood just isn't worth the effort that goes in to what can be a very disappointing result. Case in point for me was this dresser I posted on here. It was in a lousy, cheap wood finish before, but, painted up very nice. I don't mind normal wear and tear, but, don't like obviously distressed pieces.Helpful Reply

Dee on Jul 02, 2014I've used Annie Sloan, which is very expensive. I've made my own using unsanded grout. I just tried the new Americana Décor, which is only $5.97 for an 8 oz jar (at Pat Catan's). I can't justify the cost of AS, and I find the other two options work just as well. If you mix your own, the color options are endless. And a little goes a long way. It's really the wax finishes that make it so unique.Helpful Reply

Savvy Chic Michelle on Jul 03, 20141) pretty much can paint on anything. ( i've even painted fabric) 2) very easy to work with 3) easy to distress 4) covers in 1.5 coats but I usually do two. 5) dries very fast 6) dries a matte finish and looks blah till you wax it or put some kind of protective finish on it. that's the difference between latex and chalk paint. Latex you get that shine right away chalk paint doesn't till you wax it and if waxed right will shine like no tomorrow. 7) even though its expensive it goes a long long way. I use one can and can do two large pieces and small piece. so in the long run more expensive yes but you can do a lot with it. I could go on and on. I used to paint with latex and now I don't even touch it unless it going on a wall. The only draw back is....I WISH that "the most popular one" would come up with more colors but I have learned to not be afraid to mix a few colors to get what I want.Helpful Reply
