Update homemade seashell mirror

by Cathy Jane
I received this mirror from a former resident's daughter, that lived at the assisted living facility where I once worked as a nurse. Ran into the daughter years later, after her mother had passed, and she wanted to give me something to remind me of her mother, Grace V. I'd like to incorporate it somehow/someway...... Any suggestions? I want to paint it so bad I can barely stand it! But I do not want to ruin or regret my choice.

I can't imagine wanting to paint something so pretty. It's hard to say how to incorporate it into your home without "knowing" your home. Maybe you could hang it in a grouping? How big is it? Could it work as a decoration in front of a switch plate in one of your bathrooms if you removed the mirror?

I would put it in the bathroom with the mirror in it..... I would probably add some different shells to it to add color and texture.......you could fill in a lot of spots... add starfish....play around with it and see what you can come up with... a good base or start..... look up some of the other seashell mirrors on Pinterest..... it will give you some good ideas!!

I agree with 'Z"...besides...I wouldn't want to change something that some one admired enough to give me in remembrance of someone. I wouldn't change it...I would create a special space for it & surround it with 'like things' ...like in a corner or on a shelf in a den or somewhere that I could look upon it & think about or pray about that person & the daughter that was kind enough to think about me & give me this item that she felt so motivated to give.

i would either white wash it or add a few smaller shells, or starfish. Just to break it up a little. Good luck!

I could see painting it to fit your decor. First you'll want to cover the glass, lol, and possibly the pearls. Then, you could do a couple different things. First, spray the piece with adhesion promoter to help make paint stick in all the little crevices on this piece. You can find it at the dollar store. You can then whitewa as some have suggested. You could also pick out two or three colors from the room you want to display in, then alternate the colors when painting the shells. Or spay the piece all one color the match the room. Good Luck!
