How to Build a Shed Floor

There are many steps involved with building a shed. Is important that you build the shed correctly. If you cannot build shed correctly, it may not hold up or function as you to. The first step in building a shed is constructing the floor. Below, we have outlined the steps that you need to take in order to build a proper shed floor.

The first thing that you need to do is make sure the ground that you are building the shed on his level. Map out the space that you need to build your shed on and level the ground underneath. Make sure the ground is firmly packed down so it doesn't shift after the shed is built. If you are not able to completely level the ground, you can use pillars to support the weight of the shed. Make sure the pillars are firmly planted into the ground and the tops are all level with each other.

Once you have a level surface to work with, you can start adding the support beams. The support beams will hold all the weight that is contained in the shed. You will build the floor on top of the support beams. Make sure the support beams are firmly planted into the ground or the peers and our level with each other.

Once the support beams are in place, it is time to lay the groundwork of the floor. Pace them about 6 inches apart across the entire floor that run perpendicular to the support beams. These will provide enough strength for the flooring. As with all the steps so far, make sure that this top layer of floor beams is level across the whole way. Once you have secured all of the floor beams, you can move onto the next step.

Once the floor beams are in place, add blocking in between each of the beams in the middle. The blocks keep the floor beams from moving over time. Keeping the floor beams in place is important if you want the floor of the shed to remain strong over a long period of time.

At this point, you can lay plywood sheeting on the floor. Hopefully, all of the beams are level. As long as they are, it should be easy to fit the plywood together. Cut out sections so that everything it will fit nicely together. After this point, nail the plywood down across the floor beams to secure it in place.

As you can see, is building the floor alone is a lengthy process. This building an entire shed is even more difficult. If you are not able to build a shed yourself, you can buy and order prefabricated sheds which are much easier to set up. You can even hire help to have the shed set up for you. The process is simple as long as you buy the right kind of shed and hire the right people to build it for you.
