Vintage 1960's Electrolux storage box

Question

I have this vintage Electrolux storage box. The outside vinyl is perfect shape and all the nail trim is there. Any suggestions what to do with it? I hate the brown vinyl... Should I spray paint or use another type of paint? What about the area around the buttons and tufting? How will that be to paint? Too tall already for wheels or legs I think. Suggestions please!

i have spray painted leather and that turned out great...i don't see why not you couldn't paint vinyl..i used color time spray paint...hope this helps...

Some type of chalk paint would probably adhere well to the vinyl, perhaps in a light color with darker shadings to bring out the design.

Krypton makes a spray paint that you can use on anything. If you're really sure you want to change it I'd try that. You probably should degrease it with TSP or some other type of cleaner before you paint it. It's an interesting piece. I never knew Electrolux made furniture. You might want to check to see its' value before you do anything to it. Good luck with your project.

Since the outside is in such good shape, and since painting it would totally and permanently change this vintage piece, maybe you should try covering it with some fabric first just to be absolutely sure you want to make such a drastic, permanent change to it.
You could sew a box shaped cover for it (or in this case, rectangle) and just slip it right down over it. That way, it wouldn't damage it in any wayl, and you would have a whole new look in any color/pattern/design you want.

I didn't know there were such boxes from electrolux. we bought a cleaner in 1965 and didn't get one for my cleaner. I think it is very nice the way it is. they make a spray paint for plastic if you want to paint it. I bought some at Lowes for a project I was doing but I think you are lucky to have it in as nice condition as you do.

If you paint or make a permanent change, you destroy it's value. If you hate it, try making a fabric slip cover. I'd use that at the end of a bed or seating if you have a really big, walk-in closet. Put an ad on ebay and see what offers are drawn.

What a great storage piece. I'm thinking making a slip cover will leave you with flexibility in usage. Don't know if you use it for seating but if you do, I'm wondering if paints might chip or crack when you sit on it and the vinyl flexes.
