I can't tell in the picture what room it's in or if it's seat level. Let me know and I have some ideas for you :-)

I have a very similiar window and I change it with the seasons. Right now it is summer flowers and pastel decorations and then I put turkeys and halloween and finally christmas decorations. It is very fun to see the changes every few months. Use your imagination.

High Leah Anne, The window is in the living room and is quite large. I can't wait to hear what you suggest. Thanks Christine.

I think you need to cover the pull-down shades with drapery panels made from sheets. There is a post on here using a twin sheet for each window and clip-rings, how easy! Then I'd just put a glorious big sprangly flower arrangement in a tall crystal? vase. (Decorating per season is more like for your porch or door to me). The tutorial used taupe twin sheets, goes with anything. Whatever you decide, good luck to you! You have a lovely bay window!

Thank you Vicki, I think I will try the drapery panels, Susan also suggested drapes. Not to sure about vase but I do appreciate your help, Thanks again, Christine

Drapery panels on the sides would dress up the window covering portion of your decorating, but you also need a larger display of flowers. The one there, is way too small. Go to your local dollar store or Walmart and get a large clear vase. Buy some crystal colored stones there, as well and some colorful silk flower stems. Make a nice arrangement and place in center of bay. You can also add some nice fat candles on either side of the vase, as long as the window doesn't get too much hot sun, so the candles won't melt. Good luck.

Thank you Susan, I never really thought about drapes but I think that sounds fantastic, it would change the whole appearance. Thank you for your help. Christine.

You could just get a cat...mine spend all their time in the bay window and knock everything I try to put there out. ;-)

If you do not want to use it for a seating area, I would decorate as if it were a table. Place a lamp, some books and colored opaque bottles along with your planter of flowers. Maybe even a serving tray with some of your favorite treasures. Agree with others that some kind of draperies or cloth shades would help dress up your window.

I'd make a custom boxed cushion for it. Even with the full length windows, I think it would be a great place to sit and read on a rainy day. You could grab some pillows from the sofa for a back rest. I bet even your kitty would join you.

Hi Becky, I would love to put cushions but the window except for the am in full sun. The blinds have to be drawn most of the day. Cushions would look good though. Thank you for your idea. Christine
    • Z Z on Jul 03, 2014
@Christine, the blinds could be closed to just the top of the cushion. Granted, it wouldn't be a good place to sit with the blind down during that time of day. Another idea would be to have those windows tinted.

I love this window! I think I would do a beautiful plant a good sized one in a decorative pot! Also you could use a runner to add some color and either add two lamps to flank and balance or two great lanterns! I hope you post a pic when your finished!

I was thinking of a large Jade plant, Love the Lamp ( Lantern ) idea. I will certainly post a pic when I'm done... Thanks Kara

My girlfriend uses hers for seasonal decorations. They are very noticeable there. She adds drapes in winter.

I see these windows as focal points of the rooms. My first thoughts were to pull the shades all the way up during the day and let the light in. Drapes on each side of the window floor length would frame it nicely and draw the eye immediately. If you want to soften it a bit you could also use shear panels on spring rods inside each window from sill to middle of window (so you can always look out over the top). During the night for privacy you can close the shade full length over the shears. A nice tall floral arrangement in the center with family photos, etc. around the base. During the holidays replace with seasonal decorations as someone else suggested. Good Luck!

Christine......You may want to investigate the "bottom-up/top-down" style of blinds....that way whatever you have in/on the area could still allow some bright light BUT would help to protect from the hot Sun,....whatever you have on display in the area as well.

@GrandmaCarol Speight I have the two way blinds...they are wonderful when you want to keep in the privacy at the bottom and let the light in the top or let the cats have the opening to sunbathe!

I agree with drapes and treating it like a table with a lamp and some decorative items and plant! Also like the idea of bottom-up/top down blinds. My personal taste is to use sheers that come to the sill but that's a personal preference.

I would hang a potted plant in each window....nothing on the bench.

I had a window like this that faced east...lots of light and only morning sun. I put a sword fern in the window. In a few short months it filled the window.

Having waited for years to have the window on the back of the house in the den overlooking the deck made large enough to view my forest, I would not clutter this window with a thing! I would sit a chair on each side, slightly angled toward the window, put in a small table between them and enjoy the view! As for the blinds, I would let them down when needed and tilt them upward some. That way you can still see out but you will deflect the sun.

Would get rid of the hanging window - it disrupts the view and messes with the symetry. I'd put a plant or two - they should do well in full sun. They would also help control the amount of sun streaming in which fades furniture and upholstery. Maybe an ornament, books, etc. to accessorize as well.. The blinds are great. I wouldn't worry about draperies, curtains, etc.

I think if it's in the living room you should soften it up a bit. Add a cushion or at the least 2-4 large throw pillows. I think covering the window with heavy draperies will hide the beauty of the window and obstruct the view. Shades that you can pull up would look better I think.

Thank you all for your terrific ideas, now to choose. This is going to be hard, but I think I will figure it out...I will post pictures when I get everything put together.

Just to say, we have a 4-window bay on the North side of our PA house. I can watch the storms come in, the birds in the feeders and I wouldn't cover them for anything. The only things on the sill are the colbalt blue bottles my hubby collects and the brings much needed light into the dining room. Have fun. You will find what sparks your imagination.
