Are you ready for the 4th of July celebrations? Every year I look forward to a cookout, fireworks, and celebrating with family. I can just imagine cutting into a nice juicy watermelon as we watch the show! I don’t buy many fireworks, but I do usually grab a couple of boxes of sparklers for the grandkids. Today I wanted to share a cute last minute project to dress them up and add a little whimsy to the festivities.
I created the cut file for my matchbox cover to tie onto a candle for Valentine’s Day. It turned out really cute and I thought… what better way to display my matches to light the sparklers with?!? It has a hanger to loop some twine or ribbon through and an opening on the bottom to strike your match. Since it is a print and cut design, it can be customized for any occasion, so I gave it a shot!
I imported the cut file into Silhouette Studio. I wanted red and white stripes for my base so I made rectangles the same width as my base and filled them with red. I then spaced them as I layed them onto my base to get the look I was going for leaving the space blank that will be the top of my matchbox cover. I then added the “4th of July file that I purchased from the Silhouette Online Store to that space. Once I was happy with my design, I set the cut lines to “no cut” on all shapes except the base as you can see in the last screen shot. I then grouped my design together and set my line color to “none”. I printed and cut my design on white card stock and folded it on the score lines. The cover is wrapped around the matchbox and secured with double sided adhesive tape. A small piece of silver ribbon tied it to a few sparklers.
I hope you enjoyed my fun and easy project. You can view more photos and get the free cut file at My Paper Craze.
Enjoyed the project?
