How many of us have hand-stitched linens, passed down from relatives, stashed away and not being used?
Through-out the years I have found re-use for some pieces in sewing projects, such as pillows, a bed skirt, and sweet window valances. For years, I visualized using the fabrics in art projects. Recently one plan came to fruition. I created the third Old Glory in my mixed media flag series.
Through-out the years I have found re-use for some pieces in sewing projects, such as pillows, a bed skirt, and sweet window valances. For years, I visualized using the fabrics in art projects. Recently one plan came to fruition. I created the third Old Glory in my mixed media flag series.
Materials: leather, vintage hand-stitched linens, used denim, old maps, buttons, 20"x30" stretched canvas, matte medium, sewing machine, E-6000 glue.
I chose maps of world countries to cover the white stripes, veiled under linen strips.
I tore and cut specific sections carefully, choosing pieces that added symbolism and texture to the story.
Maps of American states were patch worked under 50 used buttons.
Enjoyed the project?
