Can a tree morph

Donna Byram on Jul 07, 2014I have a Weeping Snow Fountain Cherry that did the same thing, I figured it was a stem that was part of the grafting they did to make the tree. The tree is grafted onto other root stock for a shorter stature, according to Springhill Nursery. Yours may have been a grafted plant too. I just cut my stem off.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Jul 08, 2014I too have had plants totally change...roses do this too! I think the base to which some other plant is grafted decides to take over and overpowers the graft. I am not too familiar with what all this means, but I usually just take the plant out.Helpful Reply

Katie Price on Jul 08, 2014I agree with Donna and Jeanette; you probably have a grafted tree. Follow the rogue shoot all the way to the base and cut it cleanly. You may have to do this often, but I think eventually the top, grafted species will prevail. Be persistent and patient.Helpful Reply
