DIY Air Conditioning Fan
by

I recently saw this video of a floor fan converted into an air conditioning cooler. Ice chilled water in a bucket is sent by a pump through a coil attached to the front of the fan.
The fan pushes air across the coils, exchanging the cold from the water to the air, and the water returns to the bucket to get cold again.
It was really well done, but ended up with a bucket in one spot, the fan in another, and hoses and power cords stretched in-between.
I wanted to build one that works on the same principals, but also looks nice in a home office.
Enjoyed the project?

Darla on Jul 08, 2014You could even use solar panels to power the fan and pump because it would take a lot less electricity than an air conditioner!

Yeah you’d only need about $3000 worth of solar cells to generate that amount of electricity.

Nigel@Homemade Wine Rack on Jul 09, 2014I've also seen this concept recently in Google Images. Are the copper coils easy to acquire?

Couldn’t be easier, you just need to pay money for them.

Have a question about this project?
Considering you’d have to keep cooling the water with ice that takes energy to make the carrying away and dumping the warm, acquire all those materials then end up with something that looks like an absurd piece of junk wouldn’t just be easier to buy a portable unit?
