Vintage Reclaimed Rulers!

This week I re-cycled some vintage yardsticks and an old side table into this Vintage Reclaimed Ruler Table-love it!!
The completed tabletop in a log cabin quilt pattern using vintage rulers for decoration. For complete DIY details, check out my blog Country Design Home.
We cut and then taped the pieces into place using painters tape until the entire table top was completed.
After we cut and taped all the pieces, we glued them into place with wood glue. Didn't take long to dry because it was about 95 degrees that day!!
Finally, we secured the pieces with a brad nailer gun. Similar, but much smaller than a nail gun. It secures the pieces but only a tiny top of the nail is exposed.
The sides were sanded using a mouse sander to remove any imperfections or uneven edges.
This is the paint I used for the base: Americana Chalky Finish paint by DecoArt. I love this stuff! Very easy to use, no prep needed and cleans up easily with soap and water. Leaves a nice, chalky finish that looks great on vintage pieces. You can purchase it at Michaels or at HomeDepot or online.
The vintage brass drawer pull was also painted with chalky paint and then sanded with a damp sanding sponge to bring out the brass finish.
I sanded all of the painted wood edges with a damp sponge sander to give the piece that worn, weathered appearance.
Using a damp sponge is preferable over a dry one. The paint removes more easily with the damp sponge and doesn't create a chalky mess on the floor!
Vintage Side Table Before
This is the before. A little dusty and downtrodden, but essentially intact side table with a drawer that actually works. Picked it up at a yard sale for $3.
