How to Cut a Butcher Block

We recently remodeled our kitchen, and because I always wanted a butcher block counter top, that's what we installed.

Our kitchen counter was decided in 4 pieces, each of them with a different length. We had bought 3 Butcher block counters from Ikea, and now it was my turn to cute them to size...

After I spend half a day searching for the best way, on how to cut a butcher block I thought I was ready!

Well, what can I say. Just clamping a straight piece of wood to the counter didn't do the trick, and my hand saw was getting really hot - which made the blade give in and my cut was off.

Then my brilliant husband had the idea to set the blade higher, and only cut through half the counter. And on my second cut I set the blade lower and was able to cut right through with a straight cut.

This is the best way to cut a butcher block!
