Sharon on Jul 16, 2014Pamela, I haven't used any fertilizer, maybe that's the problem. What kind would you suggest? We live in a free standing condo, so the flower bed itself has a dark mulch that is used on all beds. It's is on the south side of our house and does get a light of sunlight , although sometimes Ohio isn't all that sunny! We had a terrible winter, with below freezing temps for weeks and about 1 1/2 feet of snow that didn't melt for weeks. Many people have lost box woods , holly's and other plants. The plant looks very healthy, just not blooming. Nancy, We have given it extra water since it was planted. We can up that however. Thanks for your ideas!Helpful Reply

Michaela Edwards on Jul 16, 2014I just learned that Oak leaves and pine needles you find off the road or in somebody's yard is a wonderful fertilizer. And it is very affordable. Hope it is available in the area or make a trip to the forest near by. Mix it into the soil and water. How about fish tank water? Do you have any of that? Anybody you know has a fish tank that you can get the water from?Helpful Reply

Sharon on Jul 16, 2014Michaela, seriously, fish water?? My grandson has a beta in a bowl but no tank. That bowl wouldn't provide much! I'll have to ask around........Bet I can find some pine needles though. We have a couple short needle pine trees . Wonder if what you are talking about are the long needled ones that smell so wonderful in the south? Thanks for the ideas.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jul 17, 2014How big is the plant? I planted a one-gallon oak leaf hydrangea last summer and it didn't bloom this year, but it is growing and seems happy and I am hoping for next year. It does seem like yours is getting a lot of sun. These are understory plants in their natural habitat. I would be willing to be that is why your blooms dried up so quickly last year.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Jul 17, 2014My hydrangeas are growing beautifully but I have not had a single bloom this year. I attributed it to the extreme cold we had. ??? I could be wrong, am going to give it a chance next year! Very disappointed!Helpful Reply
