We have paneling from the 70's in the livingroom how do we paint it

Adrianne C on Jul 17, 2014Clean it really well, some used Scott's liquid gold, or some other polish on the paneling. Use a good primer and you'll probably end up putting on 2 coats of finish paint as well. Or, put up wallpaper! Don't have to go back over that!Helpful Reply

Tudyrunningwater on Jul 17, 2014clean it real well, if you don't want the groves to show, fill them in with dry wall compound, (very cheap ), then prim, you may need two coats of primer, then paint with a good brand of paint... good luck :-)Helpful Reply

Martha Overby on Jul 17, 2014We bought a house last year that was "stuck in the 70's" and completely remodeled it. Painted all the dark paneling white and it looks great. Clean, prime and paint. Did not fill in the grooves and it still looks wonderful.Helpful Reply

Dee on Jul 18, 2014Just clean well with TSP or purple degreaser from Walmart. Rinse, and let dry well. Use a good primer, kill or zinser 123. Paint with a good latex paint 2 coats maybe 3. Do not fill in the grooves it can crack later down the line and will look terrible. I did this to my den and it looks greatHelpful Reply

Michelle Thompson on Jul 20, 2014Boy do I understand what you're talking about! Use a good quality paint/primer mix... Valspar, Behr etc. Make sure wall is free of dust and dirt before you start paintingHelpful Reply
