Need help on living room colors

I have been out on a medical leave since last Oct, I have done a whole lot with redecorating, starting with the bathroom, then kitchen, then partial dining room and now on to somewhat finishing the dining room and living room.
Ok so the first picture is truly my new color plate-
Window in living room and sliding glass door that is in the dining room.
It feels as though I need to 1) keep the window covering the same in both rooms.
2) I want grommet curtains, no valance or anything else. 3) I want them simple, really like the idea of drop cloth curtains, maybe with a stencil pattern over both? (have never done either, really green around the neck when it comes to decorating) 4) thinking about a picture I found online in one of my many many journeys. Bamboo shade in the middle of large window (like mine), then perhaps curtains on both sides,
As you move into the living room, wall to wall carpeting is a sage green, covered with a moss green shag rug, one of the walls is sage green, the other two walls are a delish mocha, that color started in the dining room and goes through the liiving, down the stairs, in the entryway and down the second flight of stairs. Sofa in living room stays, some ideas to bring the springs and stuffing back to life.
I am willing to part with the green moss shag rug. No idea what I would put down to replace it, and yes it is covering carpet that needs to be replaced!
last picture is the other side of living room, the wall on the left is a sage green, the wall on the right is the mocha carried over from dining room.
I feel stuck with this, any ideas?

I love your striped wall! You have more decorating sense than you give yourself credit for. Your idea of drop cloth curtains have looked great. Stenciling is very easy once you give it a try. Stencil, tape and paint -- it's painless from there. Check the different companies you can Google until you find one you like and run with it. Patty, your pallet you have chosen is great. A stencil will "speak to you" and run with it.

thank you Sally- my lack of confidence in this area is very real. I remember being like in 2nd grade and totally focused on how you pick out furniture with your husband. I know, very strange.

Here's my 2 cents...1st ~ I would stick w/ your idea of drop cloth curtains w/ grommets I would do a cream or ivory color that will brighten the room up on that side in the dining & living room. 2nd ~ I would re-upholster the 2 rattan chairs w/ the same pattern or something similar(It doesn't have to match as long as the colors are the same) of your throw pillow in the 1st pic. 3rd ~ I would re-upholster the chair next to the couch a lighter green but in the same palette as the couch. This will help bring a more cohesive look to your furniture. Then I would get throw pillows in accent colors(plain & patterned) in some of the colors of the pillow & small rug(?) in your 1st pic. 4th ~ I would take the large mirror & center across from the window in the living room, then do a gallery style of artwork on either side of the mirror. 5th ~ Any family pics or artwork on the book case place them on empty walls in a groups of 3-5 vertically or gallery style. Hope this helps
