We had a new lawn installed last summer. I am getting spots of dead grass. What could be causing this and how do I treat to get those spots green again?

  • Try picking up the dead spot. If it come up most likely its grubs. They eat the roots causing the grass to die off. The result is the grass simply lays on the top of the soil and without the roots it can be picked up like it was freshly laid sod.

It's not grubs, the grass roots are still in the ground and solid!
  • Could you have fertilized the lawn and perhaps over did it on those spots? That will cause burn on the grass also. @Douglas Hunt perhaps you can assist on this?

What type of grass do you have? How often do you water it, and at what time of day?

@DeDe @ Designed Decor I would have a discussion with your lawn service. If there is no other reason for the spots, you may be able to simply re-seed those areas.

    Yes, looks like fertilizer burns.

Is it just near the walkway? If so, it is too hot and maybe too shallow there. I had the same problem. I am in the process of digging out a section of my grass along the walkway and making a planting bed with a row of azaleas with hostas in from to line the walkway.

Maybe your neighbors are walking their dogs and letting them urinate close to the sidewalk.

I just typed a thorough explanation of why your problem could be grubs....my comments disappeared...check it out . ...lift the sod ...you will see them if this is your problem.....
