"Home" Decor

As I prepared for a trip back home to Minnesota and Wisconsin, I realized how much I loved living in those states (I now live in North Carolina). That inspired me to create some wall decor to remind me of every state I've called "home."
I started with 1/2" birch plywood and cut it down to 12x12" squares. I then used a miter saw to cut the frames. I went online and printed out the outlines for the three states and traced them on the boards.

I primed the insides of the states and then painted them with a cream color latex paint. This was very hard to do and you can see that the coast of North Carolina is not perfect! I then primed and painted the frames.
I then carefully stained the boards around the states, sealing them with a water-based sealant afterwards.

After that, I attached the frames with an electric staple gun. I had to fill in the staple holes with spackling and then touched up those areas with paint. I attached sawtooth hangers to the backs and then I was finished!
Now I have wall decor in my living room that not only reminds me of my many "homes" but it also makes me feel proud because I made it myself!

This would be perfect for a home where someone has lived in different states or if the couple is from different states or countries!
