Sweet cherries can be an abundant crop in the home orchard or easily purchased at fruit stands. While they are delicious fresh and eaten by the handful, they also make wonderful preserves to fill the pantry shelves for the winter season.
Cherries can easily be canned in a sugar syrup with very little preparation, as they don’t need to be peels or chopped, even pitting is optional. They also freeze easily for winter smoothies and fruit crisps.
Dehydrating them into chewy bits makes for a great addition to baked goods and breakfast oatmeal.
Home food preservationists should not forget about putting some in brandy for a delightful adult treat or making some jam or conserve out of them for gift giving needs.
