That looks like a very nice stand of blazing star, also known as gayfeather (Liatris species). They are native, and perennial, and attract birds and butterflies.

@Pam Park There are a couple of white cultivars of liatris. You seem to have gotten some mixed in.

Liatris Spicata Monarch Butterflies feed during migrations. They used to be a very prolific wild flower blooming in October here in Texas. I bought bulbs from another state and they are blooming now in July. They can be quite tall and grow in the worst soil. After the flower blooms save the dried flowers, look close it is seeds which fall to the ground then eventually becomes the bulb and the cycle begins again. They are magnificent.

They come in purple, white and a bluish pinky sort of color, are bulbs that are native to the prairies, will set and drop seed which will then grow into blooming sized plants within a couple years (usually don't bloom until 2nd or 3rd year from seed). Like a wide variety of soils, tolerate moderately damp conditions but do better in fairly dry, handle some really cold winter weather (think Alaska) and hot summers, prefer sun rather than shade.
