The Garden Frog with C Renee on Jul 27, 2014actually cucumbers and melons cannot cross but it is different squash that cannot cross pollinate. there are many theories why cucumbers curl but if they taste fine i would not worry. Sometimes i have read in old gardening book it is from pollination and/or the type of cucumber. I know this is not a real information answer but old cucumbers need pollination and so you plant them near other plants that need pollinated so the bees will visit them more often. and some misshape later in the harvest when the plant and production start to decline. hope this helps somewhat-Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jul 28, 2014Squash and cucumbers do not cross-pollinate. Even if they did, there would be no effect this year. It would not be noticed until they seeds grew the next year. For a very good discussion of this, see this post from Walter Reeves: http://www.walterreeves.com/food-gardening/squashpumpkincucumberwatermelon-pollination-explanation/Helpful Reply
