CeCe Caldwell's Paint Up-Cycle in Beckley Coal

Hue St. Market
by Hue St. Market
This piece started out seeming like an easy one - that is until I agreed to strip it! Never again!!! The beauty of CeCe Caldwell's Paints is there is no need to stripe - you just paint right over - no mess or fumes!! Boy, did I learn my lesson!!!!!
The end result was worth it!
Here is final piece with new hardware in client's home!
The innocent before pic!
The piece had a lot of chipping going on especially on the legs. The brown underneath was starting to flake off. The client asked to just strip it and start completely over. Having never stripped a piece before, I agree to learn how. MISTAKE!!!
The beginining of the huge stripping mess!
I read several blog posts about what stripping to use and which ones were more green and less VOC's. I went with Citrastrip Stripping Gel. It took too many coats to count and 2 bottles of it. A huge mess in my backyard and just not what I expected.
4 days of stripping later
I gave up 4 days of stripping later. I made sure the top was all smooth (sanded some too) and decided to just start painting!
After 1st coat of Beckley Coal
After the 1st coat of Beckley Coal I didn't feel like crying anymore :) I started having hope after all.
2nd coat of Beckley Coal and poly top coat.
This client wanted an ultra-shiny top-coat so I went with a hi-gloss poly.
The transformation was stunning!
The final piece with new hardware and in client's home are worth every bit of worry and sweat! Love how it came out but I will never strip another piece again!!!!!
