Lana Davis-Norris on Jul 31, 2014What about a sitting area? Not sure what the burning laws are in Texas but you could add a fire pit in the middle of the sitting area. What does the back area of your house look like? Is there a patio or anything there?Helpful Reply

Tina Krenz on Jul 31, 2014You're lucky you have space for a garden, you should see the space I have to work with. Not very big, and it will be for raised beds too. Right now I have it blocked off so my son's dog and my little pom won't go back there and make a mess. Our backyard faces East as well, and my flower bed is in the front so it gets the hot sun in the summer most of the afternoon, but I've been able to save my flowers somehow, so far from the heat and sun.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Jul 31, 2014You are lucky to have a blank slate. Depending on time and budget constraints as to what you will want to do. Remember, all gardening will require upkeep. it is fun to put in an watch it grow, but a pain to keep weeded, watered, fertilized, trimmed, etc. Be sure and plant your trees some distance from the fence so that (1) you do not irritate your neighbors with leaves, limbs, etc. falling into their yard and impeding their property and (2) you get the full benefit from them.Helpful Reply

Patty Miller on Nov 10, 2014We live in TX, too....our backyard is large! That's one reason we bought this place. For 3 years all we did was now the grass. Then, we had the good fortune to put in a pool~ there's still plenty of room & grass, AND after that drought a few years back, we were lucky to have the pool and less dead grass to replace!. Just a thought...Helpful Reply
