Help Identifying this Rescued Piece

I rescued this from storage at my parents' and want to restore it. I'm not sure what I'll use it for. Does anyone know anything about what it might be or what piece is missing from the top?
Here is a close look at the top with missing molding.

Looks like a dresser top, the part what would hold a mirror.
  • Oh wow- I've been thinking it was an entry of foyer piece of some sort and hadn't even considered it could be for a dresser! The two pieces on the sides toward the bottom throw me off. Thank you!

dresser top w/ mirror..my grandmother had one almost identical to that..if you are looking for an idea..I'd just clean it up a bit.. hang is in your entry way with a framed mirror in the center..the little shelves would be adorable with flamess candles on timers,, for coming home at night..
  • Thanks Wanda! I'm wondering if I should try to add any molding to the center or if it would be too hard to match.

I would hang a mirror inside of it.. leaving space around the mirror frame for a bit of wall to show.. this would add a bit of extra punch with the detail on it..

I would say it held a mirror, also, but it would make a great hall tree. Add a backing where the mirror was with coat hooks, and maybe a shelf across, where the candle holders are, for gloves, scarves, etc.

I saw on HT where someone had painted this a contrasting color with the entry paint and attached it to the wall to serve as a narrow table on which to put keys! In fact, you could attach some slats across the back of this, paint it a pretty color, put cup hooks on the slats and make a key holder. Or put a board in the back instead of a mirror and use chalk board paint and put in the busy family area!

I agree.. Turn it into a Hall tree. more hooks and a table top with a mirror, Set it near a wall plug so you can charge your phone. Then things will be ready for when you go out again.
  • Great idea @Rusty. I need to get motivated and working on it!

This looks Eastlake in design. Have you done anything with it?

You can just sit and hang over a small desk or table and hang a picture frame in the center.
