Basement is finished. It has blue tile with different shades and some hit of deep yellow, Burber carpet that lite grey, most of walls are blonde pine panel and two wall are painted light blue very pastel. I am not a fan of blue but can't afford to change flooring or panel. I want to paint and decorate and I like warm rustic looks. Any suggestions on what colors to use besides blue

  • What is the tile on? Is it floor tile, or wall tile? I see tile and carpet along with paneling. But confused on what the tile is covering. The colors that you choose should be complementing what ever your planning to put in the basement in the way of furniture and decorations. Have you already purchased them, or if you have them, what colors are they? This will provide more information on what color or colors to use that fit your style.

What activities will the basement be used for? The two light blue painted walls are easy enough to paint over and the paneling could be painted too, if you wish, but how much blue tile do you have to work around? Do you have furniture already that you need to incorporate? If so, what does it look like? I don't think you have really given us enough info to get a good mental picture of what you are working with. If you can upload some photos of the space showing all angles of the room, the tiled area, and the furniture you'll be using, I think it will be easier for HT members to offer helpful suggestions. Right now, with the limited info we have, we're shooting in the dark.

Lighten up the yellow hue. If this is not your flavor, try grey scales with black accents. Your furnishings have a lot more to say than we do here when it comes to color and design. Many designers will use their favorite item in the room (which is less likely to be thrown away in time) to borrow color accents from. It's known as the inspiration piece. Houzz.com has many pictures of completed rooms in every imaginable concept.

I would paint the walls as the first project! Make sure you put Kilz on the paneling before painting. Use a flat paint that has some level of protection so it can be wiped. The color choice is yours depending on the amount of light and how it is to be used. With blue tile, pick a pretty yellow that goes with the yellow in the tile...lighter or darker, even a gold. Yellow is a pretty easy color to coordinate with. Then accent with aqua/yellow/chartreuse...you can even try some other colors. You can pick furniture that is in the mocha or lightly toasted color. Or you can go BOLD and paint deep red/cranberry and accent with blacks! If the tile is on the floor, you can cover most of it with rugs and furniture!

My basement is open concept. It has kitchen, dining and living room with pool table area as well. The kitchen is painted light blue back splash as well which I hate color. The rest is light knotty pine which I don't want to paint. The tile is blue marbley with a little mustard gold. It is tiled in kitchen dining and fire place. The rest is a Burber very light carpet. I can't afford to redo floors so I am trying to work with what I got so want to do a color of paint that will warm it up.

Bring in Red as splash of color and keep everything else neutral
