Debbie Harris on Aug 03, 2014Check with your local agriculter department. They should be able to tell you. Or you might contact a landscaper. They should be able to identify it.Helpful Reply

MahtaMouse on Aug 03, 2014It's a type of moss. It's no big deal, I get it on tree branches here in the Pac NW. It should rake up easily.Helpful Reply

Grimalkin on Aug 04, 2014I noticed the pine needles on the ground in your pic. There are several different pine tree diseases & pests that produce a powdery, wooly or waxy residue on pine trees. I'm certainly not qualified to identify but I do think you should definitely take a sample to your county extension service or to a good landscaping service. In the past 5 years, my new husband lost ALL of the big, beautiful pines in his backyard to such a pest/disease. Trust me...better safe than sorry.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Aug 05, 2014I'm afraid I cannot tell from your photo but I would recommend taking some of it, in a sealed plastic bag, to your local extension office.Helpful Reply

Carole on Aug 05, 2014If this is a light green colour, almost white, I think it is a type of moss or lichen that grows on tree trunks. I don't believe it to be anything to worry about. We had it growing on our gum tree trunks. BTW, it also grows on pine tree trunks.Helpful Reply
